Did you know the tobacco companies bought the food companies?

It’s true. But wait, there’s more: the same companies that can help you gain weight by selling foods that are high in sugar 🍩🍭🍬 and trans fats 🍕🍔🍟will also happily pitch you products to help you lose weight?

In 1988, the maker of Marlboro cigarettes 🚬 purchased Kraft 🧀. A few years earlier, RJR Nabisco was formed by the merger of Nabisco Brands and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. They ultimately parted ways to avoid having their food stocks tied up with tobacco lawsuits, but the damage was done.

It’s not just about pairing cigarettes 🚬 and snacks 🥨. The company that makes Cracker Barrel Cheese 🧀 shares a parent with the marketer of Weight Watchers frozen dinners.

Here’s why it matters: Food companies  know everything there is to know about addiction. Certainly way more than you as a consumer ever could.

It’s not that these foods are all bad, it’s that they are addictive. Food scientists perfect them in a lab in a mixture of the infamous triad of sugar, salt and fat.

Most cereal 🥣 , bread 🥖 and crackers 🍘are low in nutrition, and you are more likely to binge on them. That’s how they are designed.

But you can engineer a different outcome, and I can help. Please reach out if you have any questions.
